When Rex left Australia, he popped into France to do some backpacking. As you do. He met a french bloke called Pierre who asked Rex if he'd be keen to help out at his vineyard for a day. Rex jumped at the chance and he was allowed to have a go at mixing a few wines like Semillon and Sauvignon. It was there that Rex first mixed his white Bordeaux blend (WBB). Pierre wanted Rex to hang around but Rex was on the move.
Continuing his backpacking adventures and with a few WBB's and a bottle of Pierre's cabernet in the backpack, Rex visited Pierre's mate Louis in Rhone who made s top shiraz. His next stop was Rioja. It was there he met Manuel and discovered Tempranillo. All these new wines were giving him ideas. He decided to use his mixing skills again and created a shiraz Cabernet Tempranillo blend. "You beauty" was his comment. He named it RBR. The rest is history.
